Gladys Mildred officially named
First Cornish Atlantic 85 lifeboat named.

Newquay RNLI’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat was named on Sunday 20th April 2008 at 14:30 hrs in the harbour.

Newquay RNLI lifeboat station received a new state of the art Atlantic 85 lifeboat on Monday 29th October 2007.  It replaced the existing Atlantic 75 inshore lifeboat that had served at the station for 12 years. This is the first of its type on station in the county and still the only Atlantic 85 on station in Cornwall.

The new lifeboat, Gladys Mildred, arrived on station on 29th October and is to be named after the late Mrs Hay.

The late Mrs Gladys Hay of Saltash left a generous bequest in her will to fund the purchase of RNLI lifeboat, stipulating that it was to be allocated to a Cornish station. The volunteer crews in Newquay were delighted and honoured that they will benefit from her wish.
